I set up Immich on this server for one main reason. My Mom has like millions of photos and videos from all her old phones on her phone (as many as it can store), an external hard drive, and on the family computer, but it sucks to access them and upload to the external drive and family PC.
Having all those photos/videos on her phone also slows down her phone a lot.
After I set up my own personal Immich server, I thought I could help her out by offering to set up one for her on an old desktop I thrifted.
I had a 1TB hard drive sitting around so I used that for it. Now she can upload all her photos from her phone and external drive onto it and it'll have an easy and nice IOS app and web interface.
She's so glad she won't have to pay for Google Photos cloud storage and that she wont have to worry about her phone being slow anymore.
My mom isn't the only family member with access, but she's the main reason I decided to set this up.
I will likely add more services to this server like a VPN and other things if they make sense.
